Governor John Nyagarama has yet again been slammed for allegedly using civil servants to articulate his agenda to the county electorates.
According to top area gubernatorial aspirant Charles Mochama, Nyagarama has resorted to using provincial administrators and top county officials to influence voters to his favour.
Mochama, who spoke to the reporter exclusively urged the public service board to take an initiative and investigate the matter, and insisted he was ready to table evidence in support of his claims.
“I am saddened that the governor can violate the law by suing civil servants to campaign in his favour. We know how chiefs and their assistants are used to mobilise locals to support his agenda and in a number of times, we have also seen senior public officials attending functions to rally for his support,” he said.
He challenged the Nyamira County boss to face electorates in person without infringing the law by involving people who is supposed to serve interests of the public.
“He should desist from misusing public servants who the law forbids from participating in active politics. Let him come and face us without exposing innocent people to danger of losing their jobs simply because he is the county boss. As opposition, we will ensure justice prevails and those involved in the act are punished,” he said.
He confirmed writing to county commissioner Josephine Onunga to investigate the conduct of at least five chiefs and two assistants from the region.
“On chiefs and their assistants, I know of seven cases and I have written to the county commissioner to investigate. They are responsible in organising political meetings for the governor and their names will be made public soon,” Mochama added.
However, the claims were dismissed by County Secretary Erick Ochana as ‘propaganda’ and urged politicians to desist from politicizing development.
“I don’t think it’s a crime when some civil servants are delegated duties to oversee some development projects in the county. The governor has never been part of team using civil servants and that is just mere propaganda,” he told the reporter.
