Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has hit out at his Kisii counterpart James Ongwae over what he termed as disrespecting the memorandum of understanding (M.o.U) on the sharing of the disputed Keroka town.
Addressing journalists on Monday outside a Kisumu hotel where the two met to discuss over the matter, Nyagarama said that the boundary row was yet to be resolved as he accused Kisii Governor of dishonouring the agreement they signed earlier on collection and sharing of revenue from the town.
“We have had unsuccessful meeting with my Kisii County counterpart and we seem not to find a lasting solution and as it stands, the town is at the centre of controversy, but we opt to engage other leaders and surveyors to put the matter to rest," said Nyagarama.
“Kisii side has not agreed on some issues that should have been agreed on, we must put our feet down and put aside politics, have demarcations for a permanent solution,” added Nyagarama.
Nyagarama however called on the residents to remain calm as they sought for a lasting solution.
Kisii County Governor James Ongwae however declined to talk to the media, claiming that they had been hired to frustrate him. This came after one of the journalists introduced himself as based in Nyamira County.
“Have you been bought to come here and intimidate me? Go write what you think about the issue, I don’t care,” said Ongwae as he walked away.
Revenue collectors from both counties last month clashed over the collection, which brought about bloody confrontation where one former councillor sustained serious injuries.
