Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has blasted his competitors accusing them of hiring goons to jeer him during the burial of former North Mugirango MP Okeri Masanya on Friday.
The Nyamira County boss cut short his speech as a highly charged crowd accused him of maladministration and demanded his resignation.
But Mr Nyagarama on Sunday accused his opponents of allegedly importing goons to disrupt his speech and challenged them to embrace positive competition.
“Sometimes it doesn’t make sense when you invite goons to a funeral with the aim of trying to embarrass me. We must at all times respect the dead by giving them a decent sendoff and play politics elsewhere,” said Nyagarama when he addressed residents of Mochenwa.
“We should always embrace positive competition by criticising constructively rather than saying I haven’t done something without giving an alternative. We are brothers and sisters so it’s important to let people decide rather than using hooligans,” he said.
Nyagarama also urged youths to defy politicians who were out to divide them by inciting them against other county leaders.
“Time has come for the youths to rise up and decline to be dragged into such ugly scenarios by politicians who do not have any agenda. Being paid few sent to embarrass other leaders in funerals is never the right way to do things. I know the politicians who are misusing youths but let’s meet in the ballot,” he said.
The county boss is facing stiff challenge as the race for gubernatorial seat hots up.
The crowd was only tolerant to the due but gave the Governor hard times by interrupting his speech.
