Nyamira Governor, John Nyagarama has regretted that, despite his county government having positive plans to supply area residents with water, lack of adequate funding and poor ownership of water projects by local communities continue to pose a serious challenge to the provision of safe and clean water to the residents.

Speaking at Nyangori market, Gachuba Ward in the county, Nyagarama said poor land use practices have derailed the county government's agenda of supplying safe and clean water to the area residents, stating that majority of the local communities embrace land use practices which threaten water security in the region.

The governor said cultivation and planting of water-security threatening blue gum trees along the riparian areas, threatened natural water sources with extinction.

“Though my county government has good plans of ensuring residents across the county are supplied with clean water, the efforts are being frustrated by lack of adequate funding from development partners, poor ownership of water projects by local communities and poor land use practices among local residents who do not give water security a priority,” said Nyagarama.
