Social media users posted clips justifying the incident and seized the opportunity to troll the governor, who has otherwise endured torrid moments recently with heckling in front of President Uhuru Kenyatta still fresh in his mind.

Onchana on Monday termed the claims as ‘political gimmicks' with no space in the modern society and challenged residents to ignore ‘desperate’ politicians who were out to spread propaganda.

“The claims that the governor was frog marched from a church are just mere political gimmicks which our people should not even spare their precious time in listening to them,” Onchana said.

“We know of desperate politicians who are now turning to social media to spread unwarranted propaganda against the day’s leadership. That habit is completely outrageous and unacceptable and should be condemned because they are subjecting people to unnecessary tension,” he added.

He said the governor did not attend the function and had issued an apology through the organizers promising to attend when his schedule allowed.

“The Governor wasn’t part of the delegation and whatever is being circulated are edited pictures. Such a thing never happened because he had issued an apology because of a tight schedule,” he added.

The function was grazed by West Mugirango MP James Gesami and Walter Nyambati and many other aspirants of various seats.
