Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama on Wednesday stayed resolved that he will not surrender a part of the locale's region to Kisii County.

Nyagarama said despite the fact that discussions to determine the standoff over the boundary for the town were continuous, adding that he will secure the area's regional uprightness.

"I want to reiterate my government’s resolve and commitment to jealously protect the territorial integrity of our county. The county boundaries are well known and we shall not cede even an inch of our area. Currently talks are underway to amicably address territorial conflicts of some outlying parts of our county," the county boss said.

He said there is no need for people to fight and shed innocent blood over boundaries when they have been co-existing all along.

"We should never fight; we shouldn’t shed blood; we should not brood hatred among our people who have always peacefully co-existed. Nor should we destroy property. We are all working for the same people but from different jurisdictions. But assuredly, I will enviously protect that which belongs to Nyamira County."

He spoke during celebrations to mark Madaraka Day at Nyamaiya stadium.

The two counties have been entangled in a battle over the business centre, Keroka, that rakes in huge revenue.
