Kemera ward representative James Mating’a has yet again taken a swipe against Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama terming him a ‘liability’ to the Orange Democratic Movement party.
Mr Nyagarama has been facing torrid moments after losing touch with a host of ODM party officials and elected members in the county since his election in 2013.
And now Mr Mating’a has cautioned ODM against allowing Mr Nyagarama to contest the 2017 elections on an ODM ticket, blaming him for the ‘poor development’ record in the devolved unit.
“Our party must always be associated with performers and not incompetent people like Nyagarama who are basically liabilities to the party. His development record is also very poor and the party needs to recapture the gubernatorial seat,” said Nyamira County Assembly deputy majority leader.
“He is not a loyal member of the party either and previously he was working with Jubilee to frustrate some of the elected members. He should never be allowed to contest on the party ticket at all costs because we all know how he has demeaned the party in the past,” he added.
However, Mr Mating’a's sentiments contradicted those of the majority leader Mr Laban Masira who on Tuesday told journalists that the party would give all candidates equal opportunities to seek nominations.
“I do not want to be dragged into the Governor’s track record but whoever wins in the nominations whether it’s him or someone else, must be supported fully,” he added.
When contacted on Wednesday, Governor Nyagarama said the 2017 elections campaign season is still far, adding that he is still the county boss and a strong ODM member.
He stated that he won't be swayed by comments from his detractors.
