Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has lauded the Rural Electrification Authority (REA), for putting up electricity to public primary schools within the county.
Speaking at Menyenya and St. Andrew Kahawa primary schools, Nyagarama said the power connectivity would enable pupils study efficiently.
“Through the power supply, pupils within Nyamira County will be able to learn efficiently instead of the solar lamps that our schools are using. I applaud REA for the programme," he said.
REA chairman Simon Gicheru promised that all primary schools in the county would be connected with electricity by April 30, which is the National deadline for the exercise.
He challenged officers in charge to speed up the power connectivity before the deadline.
So far, the governor indicated that more than three quarters of schools have benefited with the programme.
"All primary schools will be lit by April 30, which is a deadline for power installation in various schools in Kenya," indicated Gicheru.
This is in line with the Jubilee government’s manifesto, where they promised to have most of the households connected with electricity.
