Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama is likely to retain his seat given emergence of several candidates targeting to unseat him in 2017, political scientist Gideon Mamboleo has said.
Nyagarama is set to face a host of candidates among them Walter Nyambati, Charles Mochama, William Nyakiba, James Gesami and his current Deputy Amos Nyaribo.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, Mamboleo said the crowed competition would give Nyagarama an upper hand to win an election.
“He may not be that popular among locals but I see him retaining the seat. We have so many candidates on the ground and this literally gives him a better chance to trounce his competitors,” he said.
“Votes from regions where he doesn’t enjoy support will be divided giving him an outright victory. Remember he has support at least from every polling station due to his incumbency and that is a factor that yet cannot ignore,” he said.
For him to loss, Mamboleo suggests that all his competitors field a single candidate to face Nyagarama or prepare to concede defeat in 2017 polls.
“The only way his opponents can beat him is by uniting but if they go to the election divided, I assure you that the old man will retain his seat and that is the reality,” he said.
