Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama may ditch ODM and seek re-election on a Wiper Democratic Party ticket in order to avoid the opposition party's nomination process where he is set to face West Mugirango MP James Gesami.

According to a source privy to the Governor’s campaign plans, Nyangarama is only focused on seeking re-election during the 2017 polls and he has no time to participate in the primaries.

The source who was speaking to this writer on grounds of anonymity as he is not authorized to speak on behalf of the governor said the decision was reached after a high-profile meeting convened in Nyagarama’s official residence.

“The Governor is not contesting in an ODM ticket despite being a member. He is keen to focus on elections rather than being subjected to party primaries. He is not afraid of competition because the focus is on 2017. They settled on Wiper, a Cord affiliate since the region is predominantly opposition,” the source said.

The source remarks may have coincided with Nyagarama’s recent statement at Ekerenyo where he told residents not to be weary of the parties.

“The issue of the party leaves it to me and should not bother you at all. Let’s first work and my track record will decide whether or not I will get reelected,” he said.
