The race for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat has taken a new dimension even as top ODM candidates; Governor John Nyagarama and West Mugirango MP James Gesami wrestle each other to clinch the party ticket for the governorship ahead of the 2017 elections.
A source privy to Nyagarama’s political maneuver, he understandably met party leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday evening in Kisumu at a meeting where he reportedly discussed his future in the Orange party.
Speaking to this writer on Thursday, the source said Nyagarama persuaded Raila to ‘talk’ to Gesami and have him drop his gubernatorial bid.
“I can confirm the Governor met Raila on Tuesday evening hours in Kisumu and talked passionately about his future in the ODM party,” said the source.
The source added: “ he is not comfortable with the latest entry of Gesami to the gubernatorial race and wants Raila to persuade Gesami to drop his bid since it will sabotage his re-election plans given they are both ODM members.”
However, Nyagarama’s Personal Assistant Kefa Mocheche has dismissed the reports claiming the county boss was busy preparing for the visit of Israel Ambassador to Kenya Yahel Vilan who visited the county on Wednesday.
“I don’t remember the Governor meeting Raila in Kisumu. We were in Kisumu but on a different mission of planning for the visit of Israel envoy who visited yesterday (Wednesday) because we expected him to land in the lake side town,” he said.
