Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has promised to support the construction of Mutunua Tea Factory in Kitutu Masaba constituency.
The construction of the factory has been a stalemate for years since the farmers' contributions cannot meet the cost.
During the Jamhuri Day celebrations, leaders from the constituency led by Victor Swanya and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation chair Walter Nyambati had asked the county government to pump Sh100 million into the project.
However, Nyagarama said their proposal could not work since the funds had not been factored into this financial year's budget and besides, it is not a government project.
"I will give my personal contribution towards the project since it's not a government agency and we had not budgeted for it in our 2016-17 financial year," said Nyagarama
The factory is set to tap much tea from the region in addition to creating jobs for residents.
