Attempts to salvage property from the burning dormitory were unsuccessful as firefighters arrived at the scene late while the school fraternity tried in vain to kill the flames.

Confirming the incident, Nyahururu deputy County Commissioner Flora Moroa said that the fire might have been started by an outsider because the students were in class doing their end-term exams.

“We suspect there was an outside hand in the arson attack as the students were busy with their exams,” said Ms Moroa.

Moroa further urged the police to begin a probe to establish the cause of the fire.

No student was harmed in the incident since the arson attack occurred at around eleven when they were away from the boarding section.

Incidences of school infernos have risen in the past two weeks with more than twenty schools going up in flames in what is alleged to be rebellion towards the ministry's strict policies.
