Residents of Kisumu's Nyalenda slums have asked the county government to properly handle waste in the area.
They say the poor handling of garbage in the area is putting their lives at risk more so at a time there are reported cholera cases in other parts of the country including the neighboring Migori County.
The residents further accuse the county government's workers for illegally collecting garbage collection fees from them something the residents say is overburdening them.
They say that the garbage ends up not being collected even after they pay for its collection.
Dorris Anyango who resides in the informal settlement says over accumulation of uncollected garbage is going to have a negative effect in their lives.
She added that there their children are the most vulnerable group in the whole garbage drama.
However, the county Executive in-charge of Water, Environment and Natural Resources was quick to deny the claims saying the county government has done all it can to ensure that uncollected garbage is collected and dumped at the right place.
"As far as am concerned, am not aware of any uncollected garbage at Nyalenda," Loice Akinyi Omoro.
"This claim by the residents is malicious and is only meant to tarnish the name of the county. We are going to send our team of officers there to confirm this claim."
