Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has cautioned Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi over their renewed push for Coast secession.The former investigative journalist argues that secession with creating more good than harm.Speaking to journalists in Nyali Town on Saturday, the MP said that the push for Coast separation will cause divisions among the different communities living in the region. Ali urged Coast politicians championing secession to consider other options of pushing for the rights of the Coast region instead of separation."I am appealing to Joho and others advocating for secession to be cautious and opt for other strategies that will not cause harm to the people," he said.Ali said that Coast locals are already divided on the issue, noting that it will be necessary if leaders held talks and agreed on proper measures that will better the region's development.The MP who was elected as an independent candidate in the  August 8 polls urged Coast leaders to unite and push for development.He said that divisions have seen the region lag behind in terms of development for decades.Governor Joho has maintained that the push for Coast secession is on.The ODM governor states that a consultative convention involving coast counties to chart way forward on secession will be held soon despite president Uhuru Kenyatta's stern warning on those pushing for secession.Joho and others championing secession argue that it is the only way that Coast region will achieve economic, political and social development.The governor claims that the region has been sidelined by the current and previous regimes.
