Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has warned Cord principal Raila Odinga against issuing out direct tickets.
The MP said all leaders who want to vie for different elective posts should go through nominations.
“I don’t wear anyone’s suit. I pledge loyalty to the citizens of Mombasa who will elect their leaders. Raila will be making a mistake if he chooses to pick anyone’s hands. This will have a domino effect,” said Awiti.
Speaking on Sunday at the Mamba Village centre, when he officially launched his bid to run for governorship in Mombasa, the MP took the opportunity to dispel rumours about plans to deputise the incumbent, Governor Hassan Joho, during next year's poll.
He said the presence of people from all walks of life including community leaders, the business fraternity, religious leaders, women and youth, was a clear testimony that Mombasa is yearning for leadership that will unite all Kenyans in the county.
“The endorsement has strengthened my resolve to go for the top seat in the county. I am firmly in the race and there is no stopping me and the people of Mombasa from seeking alternative, all-inclusive and progressive leadership,” said Awiti.
The MP said he will fight for the rights of traders and hawkers, whom he claimed had been suffering for a long time, adding that hawkers will be allocated a special market.
He further promised to ensure drainage systems are improved, saying that flash floods will no longer be experienced in the county.
Awiti also promised to solve the garbage menace in Mombasa, as well as ensure the issue of squatters is tackled with, by returning grabbed land to natives.
The launch was also attended by Kongowea MCA Jabess Oduor and his Bamburi counterpart Riziki Fundi.
