A middle aged man was yesterday arrested by the police in Kisii after an attempted robbery in his neighbour’s farm at Nyamage village.
Mr. Benson Otachi was allegedly found in Mr. Kepha Onsomu's farm 11PM yesterday, with a Panga ready to execute his plan.
However, the owner alerted area residents who cornered the victim and called Kisii police officers who arrested him.
“He was found in my Shamba very late in the night with a Panga ready to harvest my bananas. I was lucky to have found him and alerted villagers who responded swiftly and presented him to the police,” said Mr. Onsomu.
According to him, he had to plead with angry villagers who wanted to execute him because the man had also been stealing from some of them in recent weeks.
“We understand the law properly and I couldn’t allow them to beat him. I'm glad that they respected me and allowed the police to do their job”, Onsomu noted.
According to village elder John Nyamboki, the suspect has been a menace to residents, he had been caught stealing food stuffs several times before but was spared because he always promised to stop.
“This is not the first time we are finding him in the wrong. He has been reported before and we normally solved the issue locally since he paid a fine and promised to change,” he said.
