Kitui South Constituency MP Rachel Nyamai has urged politicians across the political divide to tone down and spearhead the country’s unity ahead of the August 8 general election.
Speaking during a voter drive rally at Mutomo market in Kitui on Sunday, the MP warned that rising political temperatures among politicians across the divide is causing anxiety in the country.
Ms Nyamai said that there is no need for politicians to engage in propaganda and witch-hunt politics.
“As politicians we must focus on issue based campaigns and focus on unity of the country instead of spewing propaganda,” she said as quoted by the Star Newspaper.
The lawmaker said that the country will have peaceful elections if politicians spearhead unity.
Ms Nyamai at the same time urged Kenyans to shun politicians who spew reckless remarks.
She said that some politicians are out to incite Kenyans to violence.
“We must not allow ourselves to be divided by selfish politicians who only value their personal interests,” she said.
The MP said that time has come for Kenyans to elect leaders who will push for unity and equality of every citizen.
She appealed to locals to register in large numbers in the ongoing voter drive exercise.
