More than 50,000 Nyamakoroto Slums residents, schools and other public centres in Nakuru town will benefit from a clean water supply project being sponsored by a local Non-Governmental Organisation.
The Co-ordinator of Nakuru region Muungano Trust of Kenya James Mwangi announced this on Thursday while at Nyamakoroto Primary School when he commissioned the construction of 20,000 litres capacity water reservoir in the Slum area that will cost the NGO Sh6 million to construct and implement.
Mwangi observed that Muungano Trust was dedicated at elevating lives of the marginalised in urban areas in the country through community based projects like water supply and housing projects.
According to Mwangi, the project that will be completed in October this year will also offer employment opportunities to the local youths.
“We are dedicated towards improving lives of the marginalised in society. Our Moto will always remain the same and inspire us to initiate more projects at community levels. This project will ensure that people of Nyamakoroto get access to clean water at zero rates and we are targeting more than 50,000 people,’’ said Mwangi.
This however, comes in the wake of an acute cholera out break in parts of Nakuru town’s informal settlement areas including Nyamakoroto Slums that medical experts attribute to contaminated water and food consumption in the Slums.
