Former nominated MP Catherine Nyamato believes the dissolution of DP William Ruto’s URP party will be the beginning of a resurgence of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party and Kanu in the former Rift Valley province.
The DP was instrumental in the dissolution of URP which had partnered with TNA in 2013 to win the presidency but has been facing tough wars from Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
And Nyamato in an exclusive interview with this reporter said CCM was likely to reap big from the dissolution basing her argument on the skewed nominations in popular parties.
“In my view, the Mashinani party will reap heavily from the dissolution because many of the disgruntled Jubilee Party members may decamp in the near future for fear of skewed nominations. This is likely to happen in the coming days,” she said.
“A few Jubilee leaders may also join Kanu given the recent passing of the party-hopping Bill which could affect many politicians. Hence my take is that JP may have a tough task in the Rift Valley,” she added.
She, however, challenged Jubilee Party to find the best mechanism for holding party primaries to avoid future fallouts.
“It’s tough because before we have seen people moving out of the ODM due to skewed nominations to join other parties and win. Jubilee has a tough task especially in the Rift Valley and even in central Kenya,” she said.
