Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati becomes the latest prominent leader to appeal for tolerance along Keroka town after his successor, Timothy Bosire, and Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o.
The town has witnessed unprecedented violence in recent weeks following ownership row between Kisii and Nyamira counties.
But Mr Nyambati, who visited a number of casualties injured during last week’s violence, urged residents to ‘stay calm’ and allow political leadership to solve the stalemate.
“We have lived as brothers even before the devolved system of governance. There is no reason to justify the serious of unrests in the town and it’s my appeal that all residents remain calm and tolerant as an amicable solution is being crafted,” Nyambati said.
“My appeal to residents is that they should stay calm and we look for a political solution to the matter. The issue of engaging in running battles is outdated and the government should take stern actions against the perpetrators,” he added.
He also cautioned political leadership to desist from inciting locals against each other and challenged tax collectors to abide by an earlier MoU which had been crafted by both counties.
“Political leadership should always be ready to give the way forward and not inciting peaceful residents against each other. Those also mandated to collect taxes should abide by the decision that was arrived sometimes last year as we look for permanent solution,” he said during Sunday’s visit at Keroka District Hospital.
He also urged both county leadership from Kisii and Nyamira to expedite the process of coming up with a viable solution to the predicament.
