Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama and his main rival Walter Nyambati will share a platform on Wednesday during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to the region.
President Kenyatta is expected to address a public rally at Ekerenyo Township and both camps are keen to take full advantage of the vent.
According to an insider of Nyambati, the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Chair will be keen to take control over the rally since he is ‘Jubilee’ point man in the region.
“As Jubilee team, we will be keen to control the Ekerenyo rally because the president is our man and we have to give him official invitation to the region, so Nyambati must be in charge,” said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“Nyagarama can only be allowed to take charge during launching of projects and not in the rally. He is an outsider and that is a fact they must respect. The rally is a Jubilee event and not ODM,” added the source.
However, county secretary Erick Onchana has since dismissed the sentiments saying the president was purely on an official duty which was purely under the control of county government.
“I don’t see why the aspirants are panicking because we are not in campaigns. President Kenyatta is in an official visit and the county government is in charge. We are not politicking and those thinking so should wait till the right time comes,” he said.
Nyambati is Jubilee point’s man from Nyamira and enjoys support from Kenyatta, leading to his appointment to JKF as chairperson after losing Kitutu Masaba parliamentary seat in 2013.
