Nyamira and Keroka police stations have modernized units which came as a result of President Kibaki and Raila police housing reforms in 2010.

Policemen in this county live in one and two bedroom house units with water and electricity installed in them.

"Proper housing gives morale to the policeman as after a long day in the field, we can now retire peacefully in a modern house," said Victor Omondi, a police officer in Nyamira.

The Nyamira county police housing became one the first phases of the project which saw the county successfully acquire more then 52units.

The project, however, has never been implemented in other counties and has seemed to vanish.

Before the units were constructed, policemen used to live in simple structures which could not accommodate the officer' families.

This has remained to be a great challenge in many other counties including the neighbouring Kisii county.

On phone, Nyamira OCPD Mr Rico Ngare said that proper housing has helped in proper police workforces to curb crime as they are motivated.

"My officers are proud of their job and a happy officer means a happy society with no crime," Mr Ngare said.
