The business community in Nyamira town and its environs wants Kenya Power to reliably supply power to them so that it stops affecting their businesses.

The business people interviewed by this writer in the town said there have been frequent power cuts for the last few months which has really affected their income.

According to Mr Samuel Ondari a cyber cafe owner in Nyamira, in the last one week he has operated his business for only three days because of major blackouts that last for more than six hours in a day.

“Power cuts have become the order of the day with the persistent blackouts recurring at least three times a day for at least three to four hours,” he added.

Daniel Onchieku, a welder in the town said he has a pile of uncompleted work due to power shortage. He said this has made him lose a lot of income.

Residents say there is no reason why the company switches off power any time it wishes without informing customers in the region.

Efforts to establish what causes these outages from the Kenya Power, however, failed as we could not reach the regional manager who was said to be out of the office on official assignment.
