A 7-year-old child from Mogusii village in Borabu constituency has slipped and died on the spot when trying to cross a bridge to his home.
Simon Mwancha had gone to play with his friends from Mwongori village yesterday before he met his death.
Mwancha had been called by a family member and tried to run in obedience, said a playmate, Winnie Nyanchama.
“I was with him before he died. We were playing before he was called by somebody from the family where he decided to rush home," said the young Nyanchama.
"I then heard a loud cry since I was near the place.”
It after that the kid rushed home and informed the deceased's mother who arrived at the scene to find her son death.
“I was unable to pull him out of the river hence I called his mother who arrived and found her helpless child lying in the river,” she added.
The mother, Jane Obwaya, said she had called her son to carry out some evening chores.
The body was taken to Nyansiongo district mortuary for a postmortem examination before burial.
Area chief Joseph Ogega described the incident as an “unfortunate tragedy” and cautioned parents against leaving their children unattended.
