Ritibo SDA church yesterday conducted a grand fundraiser that attracted leaders and members of the public following a massive campaign of advertising.

According to elder Johnston Orina, the project will be the first of its kind in Nyamira conference and will be aiming at ensuring all worshippers follow proceedings from giant screens.

“It has taken us over two years to organise this fundraiser. It was necessary since the number of worshippers is increasing weekly and we have to ensure all of them are able to see the preacher,” he said.

Asked why they had to install CCTV cameras, Orina said even churches were prone to thieves hence the need to take precautions.

“We have had incidents where churches are targeted by robbers hence we had to take a precaution. These cameras will enable us to deal with those who may be tempted to vandalise church properties,” he added.

He hailed local politicians and members of the public for turning up in large numbers to support the initiative, besides contributing generously to beat their target.

“Our politicians led by Hon Timothy Bosire complied and we are grateful for that. Even ordinary members of public shared with us generously, they too deserve credit,” he said.

Members of Abagusii community in the US state of Minnesota contributed Sh1.5 million and also offered to purchase modern chairs for the church soon.
