National government departmental heads in Nyamira County now risk losing their jobs if they don’t stop the regular absenteeism in their daily jobs.
According to Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga, the practice of absconding duty by a big number of national government departmental heads was tainting the image of the government, as residents were not getting vital services from them.
“The national government fails to deliver to the residents due to lazy officials, and that won’t be accepted in this county,” she added
She said in Executive Order number three of 2015, the president gave county commissioners the power to report errant officers directly to their respective Cabinet Secretaries.
She equated lateness and absenteeism from work with corruption, and urged leaders in the county to join hands and bring a change of heart among public workers.
The commissioner told departmental heads to inform her office whenever they have engagements outside the county to enable his office effectively discharge its coordination role.
“Absconding duty is corruption because you are paid for work you are not doing. We cannot entertain this anymore,” an agitated Onunga said
She was speaking early Monday while addressing departmental heads in his office in Nyamira.
