In a motion that was tabled on Tuesday in the assembly by Kiabonyoru MCA James Sabwengi, tea farmers want to know why they receive low payments while the end product is sold at 2 dollars per kilo overseas.

"We want the chair for Agriculture in the House to explain to us on what happens to our tea product that once sold our county gets that low pay whereas the commodity is sold expensively overseas Mr Speaker," said Sabwengi.

The leader of minority and Nyansiongo MCA Jackson Mochumbe asked Ombori to find ways of doing away with brokers in the tea sector as has been the case with the miraa farmers who now sell their produce directly to their target markets.

"Mr. Speaker, Why should our tea pass through several hands who are just idle waiting for our farmers to toil for them to pocket the quick money. We want to sell our tea directly to our consumers without these brokers" said Mogusu.

Tea farmers in the county recently demonstrated and downed tools over poor bonus payments, a move that prompted many leaders from the region to react on the matter.
