Nyamira county commissioner Ms. Josephine Onunga has threatened to sack lazy chiefs with regards to the fight against illicit brew.
She has said that chiefs found tolerating the vice in their areas of jurisdiction will face the door since the vice is the source of crime and other illegal activities in the country.
Speaking at a security meeting held at Sironga Girls’ School, Onunga urged the chiefs and other security teams to ensure that the brewing and sale of the illicit brew is eradicated completely in order to bring sanity and peace among the residents.
“We should not wait for another directive from our president, lets keep the pace which we started with and fight this common enemy called illicit brew, we should not relax because the business will resurface," she said.
On the other hand, Onunga urged the officers to ensure that security is heightened as the annual festive season fast approaches. She tasked them to ensure that all residents under their jurisdiction and their properties are secure throughout the period and that residents embrace community policing.
“We should make sure that we have no insecurity related cases in our various areas of jurisdiction during and after the christmas season; we should also embrace the community policing initiative so as we know who is in our areas. Security should be tackled and managed in a better way this time,” she said.
She also encouraged them to be non-partisan while making decisions to avoid frustrating any party and avoid conflict of interests.
