The county government of Nyamira is set to deploy 230 health workers across all dispensaries within the county to help combat the understaffing for improved health services.
Speaking at Kiabonyoru ward in Borabu on Monday, county Governor John Nyagarama said that the workers who had been recruited late 2015 were deployed to well establish hospitals making the crisis at the dispensaries to persist.
According to the Nyamira county boss, he had directed chief health officer to the facilitate transfer of the workers to the dispensaries on a permanent basis to enable resident’s access help easily.
“We recruited 230 health workers in 2015 and I am shocked that most of them were taken to already equipped hospitals. I have ordered the chief health officer to facilitate the transfer of the personnel to local dispensaries to combat the under-staffing crisis,” he said.
Mr. Nyagarama said that the move targets to deploy at least two officials per dispensary, most of which have been built through the supervision of the county government and CDF funds.
“Our county leadership wants to make health accessible to everyone. We want to ensure that we have at least two permanent health workers per dispensary. The number of dispensaries has increased rapidly in the last two years and we are keen to have all of them properly equipped,” he said.
Most of the dispensaries have been operating on mobile health workers who are stationed on specific days per week due to under-staffing that has been synonymous to the health sector, a reason why the county government is keen on deploying health workers to work in them on a full time basis.
