Tea farmers from 4 buying centers in Gesima ward Kitutu Masaba constituency have appealed to the country government of Nyamira to construct the Gesima – Iranya road which according to them has become more pathetic.
Led by Jackson Makori, the chairman of Riaking’oina Tea Buying Center said that they have been affected by the road since it is the main road to access the 4 main buying centers.
Speaking on Monday at Iranya where a KTDA vehicle was stuck, they said that they need to use the road to take their tea leaves to any of the 4 buying centers and hence can't avoid it.
“As we are harvesting more tea leaves since when it rains we always harvest large quantities, we are encountering loses as our tea leaves can end up staying in the buying centers for more than 3 days which leads them to dry causing them to lose weight,”said Makori
“I urge the county government to construct this road to boost the agriculture sector,” said Nyagaka
The affected buying centers, Riamisiani, Iranya, Matunwa and Riakingoina are the major buying centers that produce more tea leaves in the area.
