Nyamira county health services department has signed a deal with GlobalMed company to acquire a new telemedicine machine that will see access to services simplified and easily accessible to rural and interior residents in Nyamira.

Speaking during the signing of the M.o.U with Governor John Nyagarama in the county offices, the company's chief commercial officer, Manoel Coelho, said the machine which has been tested and approved in most of the European countries will see the quality of life improve in the entire country and county and reduce death among the residents due to inaccessibility to medical centres for timely treatment.

“Telemedicine compared to other machines like computerised tomography scan machine (CT scan) will reduce the costs of medicare and hence improve the quality of life among the residents,” said Coelho.

Manoel further congratulated the county for taking such a bold step in healthcare as he noted Nyamira was the first one in the Kenya to acquire the telemedicine machines in East Africa after Nigeria. He was confident in the accuracy of the machines.

“I am happy for embracing technology in improving the healthcare sector and telemedicine is the way to go if we must succeed in providing affordable and accessible medicare to our people it will save us a lot of hustle,” said Coelho.

The machine is able to offer over 40 services of various ailments.

On the other hand, Nyagarama said that said he was moved by the way people lost lives due to ignorance or inaccessibility of timely health services and made him to look for an alternative to reach those people in the interior so as to improve their quality of life and in turn grow the economy of the county.

“Most people die because healthcare is expensive and my government is trying to bring cheap and accessible healthcare to the residents so as we don’t lose more lives and this will help us grow economically when we have health population,” said Nyagarama.

Similar sentiments were echoed by the chief officer in the health department who also said that cheap expenses will ensure life saved in a timely manner.
