Every house hold from Nyamira County will receive two mosquito nets courtesy of county government and World Health Organization, a senior official from Nyamira County government has confirmed.

The official distribution of over 500,000 nets will commence on Thursday this week with officials from the county government expected to be dispatched to the five sub counties in the region to oversee the exercise.

Speaking on Tuesday at his offices, chief health officer Dr Douglas Bosire said the exercise aims at combating a possible malaria outbreak following intensive rains in the region.

“We have already secured over 500,000 mosquito nets and every house hold in the county will be issued with two nets. The ongoing rains are a major threat of malaria and the county with the aide of WHO has decided to be proactive,” Bosire said.

Mr Bosire urged residents to turn up in large numbers in the nearby health centres and other trade centres from Thursday to collect the nets but insisted that the county will use the services of administration chiefs and their assistants to make the exercise effective.

“It’s now upon the residents to show up in large numbers from Thursday in nearby health centers or trading centers as we may announce to collect the nets. We will work closely with the provincial administration to identify genuine beneficiaries,” he said.

He warned officials who will be in charge of the exercise of soliciting money from residents in the name of selling nets to them since they will be issued without any payment.
