The residents of Nyamwetureko village in Nyamira now have a reason to smile after the county government through the Ministry of Health opened a dispensary in the area.
For years now, residents have been accessing medical services at the Nyamira Level 5 Hospital.
On Wednesday, Governor John Nyagarama while commissioning the dispensary said he has dedicated the facility to his home village as one way of giving back to the society that brought him up.
"I know my people in this village how needy they are for the service, access to Nyamira Hospital is a challenge especially in case of an emergency at night and access to transport is a big problem,. I dedicate this facility to say a big thank you to this village to brought me up and to have considered me as their leader," said Nyagarama.
The county intends to upgrade the facility to a sub-county hospital in the coming financial year.
The Chief Officer in the ministry Douglas Bosire said they plan to build staff quarters, a maternity wing and ward facilities for in-patient services.
"This facility will be fully equipped with all equipment to ensure major medical services are provided here, we have already equipped the facility with enough drugs and medicine and services will start immediately," said Bosire.
