The county government of Nyamira has refuted claims that it has deployed a group of youth in Nyamira town to 'tame' individuals criticising it.

This comes after a section of youths under the umbrella of Nyamira Youths for Change wrote to the county government demanding to know the role of individuals they said are positioning themselves outside the office of Governor John Nyagarama.

The group also says that the youths also accompany the county boss to functions, taking the roles of official guards.

However, the county government through the County Secretary Erick Onchana has termed the allegations as ‘baseless and imaginations’.

Onchana advised the youth group to record a statement with the police or face the county in court to substantiate their allegations.

“The county government is not aware of the said militia intimidating opponents or people perceived to be opposing it. The allegations are baseless and mere imaginations aimed at tainting the image of the county government. They should record a statement over the same or face the county in court,” Onchana told this writer.

According to him, the people in question by the youths are county government drivers who do not have an official office and instead waits for their bosses outside the county government buildings.

“I only see government drivers who wait for their bosses outside the parking lot. It is really disappointing that people can imagine of a militia,” he added.
