Nyamira County government has set aside Sh5 million to buy and plant tree seedlings in its efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Nyamira County Assembly’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairperson Naomy Bosibori said all the wards were allocated Sh150,000 towards the purchase and planting of tree seedlings in efforts geared towards increasing the county’s forest cover.

Addressing the press in Nyamira town she said the county government is committed to ensure Nyamira’s past glory is retained by planting trees to curb the effects of the prolonged dry spell that is impacting negatively on the quality and quantity of farm produce.

She disclosed that trees are an essential resource that beautifies a country adding that there was need to plant more trees to ease the challenges of drought and food security due to diminished rainfall.

She called on farmers especially women to embrace new technologies such as EM Technologies which produces organic fertilizers that consist of a wide variety of effective, beneficial and non-pathogenic micro organisms produced through a natural process and not chemically synthesized or genetically engineered.
