With only less than three months to elections, the race for Nyamira governorship is taking shape as various aspirants settles for running mates.

Both opposition NASA and Jubilee party are keen to not only win a host of seats from the region perceived to be opposition stronghold but also scoop substantial presidential vote.

Despite having rocky relationship with his deputy Amos Nyaribo, the incumbent governor John Nyagarama (ODM) has settled for his as deputy ahead of August polls.

On the other hand, Former ODM Nyamira branch chairman James Gesami, who has since quit ODM and settled to run as an independent, has settled for Kenya Methodist University Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mageto as running mate.

Former Kitutu Masaba MP Mwancha Okioma, who will fly PDP flag, will be deputized by Job Nyasimi while his immediate successor Walter Nyambati of Jubilee is said to be sourcing for a running mate with talks being said to be at an advanced stage.

Also in the race are former West Mugirango MP and retired judge Anasi Onyancha of Wiper and Dr. Erneo Nyakiba who will run on RBK party.
