Nyamira residents have been urged to respect all leaders regardless of their political stands if at all they want to see meaningful development.

This comes after Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was forced to cut short his speech at Kitaru after being accused by a section of residents of supporting the county leadership, which was on the receiving end from the disgruntled residents.

Speaking on Wednesday at Mawawa region, the leaders led by Okong’o Mogeni, who is eyeing Nyamira Senate seat, urged residents to accommodate different political opinions for the region to progress.

They cautioned residents against being wrongly used by politicians whose main intent was to spark political hatred.

“I want to urge all of you to be tolerant when it comes to matters politics. We are living in a free world and we should therefore accommodate each others' views without prejudices. It is wrong to discriminate certain people or politicians because of their political beliefs,” Mogeni said.

North Mugirango MP Charles Geni supported Mogeni’s comments and called for political tolerance among the residents.

“In any democratic society, people accommodate each other’s views whether you agree with them or not. We have a choice to support any candidate but that should be done with civility. Political intolerance is not a good practice and we should ensure it’s defeated,” he said.
