Mr Kuria was released on bond by a Nairobi court on Friday after spending four days in police custody in connection with the remarks.

On Friday, Raila said he had forgiven Kuria unconditionally.

And on Saturday, Magombo MCA Ezra Mochiemo said the assassination remarks were ‘too serious’ to be ignored, and challenged the IG to act with speed and beef up Mr Odinga’s security to thwart any attempts to kill him.

“When such assassination claims are made by an MP close to authorities, we cannot risk at all as a nation. Raila is a leader who belongs in his own class and no one can ignore what Kuria said however much the matter is in the court,” he said.

“I want to demand that Boinnet ensures the security of my party leader is beefed up. More security officers should be deployed to guard him in all functions he attends because we cannot gamble anymore,” he added.

Nyamira County Assembly Deputy Majority Leader James Mating’a said enhancing security of Mr Odinga will make Kenya even ‘safer’, and urged the government to make it its prime responsibility.

“Raila is a statesman whose security should be enhanced. When assassination claims are made, his security must be beefed up because that makes Kenya even safer. The government should investigate Kuria’s remarks and even ensure he is secure all times,” Matinga said.
