A section of leaders in Nyamira County have expressed their desire in Appellate Court Judge David Maraga to being appointed the Chief Justice.
Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are Okong'o said Kenya needs a God-fearing Chief Justice who will bring about the desired change in the Judiciary.
"We are looking for a trustworthy and God-fearing head of the Judiciary so that the poor can get the justice they have been denied for years and I believe (Justice) Magara has all it takes," said Mongare.
On his part, city lawyer Steve Mogaka said Justice Maraga showed capabilities of handling Judiciary matters during his vetting on Wednesday, and he believes the panel will consider his experience for approval and consequent appointment as the CJ.
"Maraga is very competitive in the field and we anticipate good work if given the opportunity," said Mogaka.
The Judicial Service Commission this week started conducting interviews of candidates seeking to fill the CJ post which was left vacant following the early retirement of Willy Mutunga in June.
The commission will also conduct interviews for the Deputy Chief justice and judge of the Supreme Court.
