Residents in Nyamira County have congratulated the police for their swift action in arresting a suspect over the rape of a class four girl.
According to reports, the suspect, Calvin Mbane Alfayo alias Mohammed Alfayo, was arrested Tuesday, hours after Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery promised the public that police were hunting for him.
The arrest comes barely less than 24 hrs after the suspect posted some chilling photos of himself and a class four pupil on Facebook where he boasted on how he enjoyed having intimate time in the bush.
This drew anger from the social media users who called for his immediate arrest and prosecution.
Mbane was arrested in Sotik town and is currently being held in Sotik police station for interrogation before he is arraigned in court to face defilement charges.
Nyamira Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Mary Orwenyo condemned the incident saying it has cast the county in a bad light and called for stern action against the suspect.
"This incident is very shameful. He should be heavily punished to serve as an example," she told this writer on the phone on Tuesday.
"We want justice for the innocent girl and this should serve as an example to other paedophiles in the country. He should even be castrated so as it instills fear to others who might be having such intentions," added one of the residents.
