Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama and West Mugirango MP James Gesami should square it out in the ODM nominations without favouritism, County Assembly Leader of Majority Laban Masira has proposed.
The two political protagonists have been wrestling in public with a section of Gesami supporters accusing Nyagarama of seeking ‘Raila Odinga favours’ at the expense of his alleged poor performance.
And on Monday, Masira said the two will face off in free and fair nominations where the victor will get the full backing of the ODM family.
“I have been hearing complaints about the ODM ticket for the gubernatorial race and many other accusations and counter accusations. The truth remains that the two major candidates should face the people because they are the ones who will make the decision,” he said.
“We cannot talk of favouritism yet the party will hold free and fair primaries. The two belong to the party and it’s important for them to square it out rather than damaging the party by politicising the nomination certificate. No one will be handpicked,” he said.
Governor Nyagarama has been in the forefront pushing for a Raila presidency and was in Mombasa over the weekend while Gesami, who also doubles as the ODM Nyamira County chairman has also been involved in active party politics.
