Matunwa youth group from Gesima ward has a reason to smile following recognition by area MCA based on its contribution towards promoting agriculture and youth empowerment.
On Tuesday, the group bagged Sh100,000 from Ken Nyameino, who also promised to purchase a piece of land for them as a present for hard work and dedication manifested in the group.
Nyameino asked area youths to emulate good standards set by the youth group as a way of handling rampant unemployment amongst young people in the region.
“We are almost there based on good record you have put. This is a reward for you and soon I will purchase a piece of land for you so that you can expand the farming business,” he said.
“I would like to urge area youths to follow this good example that you have set by practising mixed farming business. If we all do that, then I think the issue of unemployment will be a thing of the past,” he added.
Group chairperson Winfrida Nyakundi said they will use the cash to invest more in fish farming business that is thriving in the region.
“It is a great honor that our effort has been spotted. Even though we handle a number of farming business, we will use the cash to bring more fish to our fish ponds,” she said.
The group has been running various farming activities such as maize, beans, napier grass, poultry and fish farming since 2011.
