A motion seeking adjournment of Nyamira County Assembly to allow MCAs attend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Thursday rallies in the region was heavily defeated on upon voting.
Nominated MCA Fredrick George had moved the motion adding that it will allow them give the president ‘good’ reception due to his status as Head of State.
And upon tabling, MCAs allied to NASA dismissed the motion on ground that Uhuru’s tour was political rather than official.
“Mr Speaker Uhuru’s tour is political and we cannot adjourn proceedings just because the minority wants to welcome their leader,” protested Duke Masira, Leader of Majority to the Assembly.
“We are the majority and business must be transacted as usual. Those planning to go it are just upon them,” added George Morara, a Wiper MCA.
Upon voting, NASA affiliated MCAs voted against the motion after garnering 23 votes out of the possible 36 votes.
Uhuru is set to tour the vote rich Gusii region and is scheduled to hold public rallies in Gesima and Ekerenyo in the NASA controlled counties.
