A group of well-wishers mostly from Gusii community living in Delaware-United States have thrown their support to at least 10 pupils who are set to join secondary schools in 2016.
The group dubbed Gusii Alliance Global Network under the leadership of Mary Omagwa has offered to support the orphans from Magura Children’s Home in case they manage to get good grades that will guarantee them places in competitive secondary schools.
Mrs Omagwa who visited the children’s home in Borabu Tuesday said the beneficiaries will be supported until they complete their education in centers of higher learning.
“As Gusii community living in America, we have been operating this initiative of supporting orphans but now we want to recruit more due to a backup we have received from more members who joined. We will support at least ten orphans who sat for KCPE from this center if they manage to score good marks in Wednesday’s results,” she said.
She challenged the orphans to grasp the life time opportunity and use it to achieve more to become meaningful to the society.
“I want to challenge these children that the opportunity to be supported comes once and they have to grasp it. We want them to become meaningful to the society and that will be our happiness,” she added.
She said the group will further support 40 more class eight orphans who sat for 2015 KCPE exams across Nyamira County on a competitive basis with top scorers given the first priority.
