According to them, tuition contributed significantly to improved results from the area, and since its ban, the region has struggled to establish itself in national exams.

Speaking on Sunday at Gesima market, the parents said continued stay of children out of school during vocations has impacted negatively to the standards of education, besides contributing to laxity and roaming of school children.

“There is absolutely nothing with tuition. I think the government should lift the ban because many teachers depended of it to shape children for better results. This region has produced poor grades in national exams and the only remedy is introducing it,” said Winnie Nyakundi.

“Besides poor results, as parents it has been difficult to handle students during holidays. Many of them sneak to markets to even watch pornographic movies which are morally wrong,” she added.

Nyakundi said a week was important for students to take a short break from tiresome studies before resuming for tuition in bid to complete syllabuses on time.

“In my view, they should only break for a week. Going back will enable teachers to complete syllabuses on time and give students humble time for revisions a head of exams,” she said.
