Few days after launching of school feeding programme in Gesima zone by a local politician, several parents have supported the initiative and urged other local leaders to join hands to perfect the exercise.
Speaking to this writer on Monday, the parents lauded aspiring Gesima MCA Mokaya Maroko for launching the initiative and said it would improve the teacher-pupil relationship since children will spend more time with their teachers.
They also asked Ministry of education to pump water into surrounding institution to avoid the hectic process of sending pupils to fetch water for the purpose of cooking.
“As parents from this zone, we want to reiterate that Mokaya has done the most honourable thing. This programme will ensure that our education standards improve because teacher-pupil relationship will be intact,” said Mary Matara, parent.
“We would like to urge other local politicians to join him and make the programme a success due to large population of pupils who may depend on the exercise. It will also be important that the government ensures all schools from the region get tapped water,” added Jane Mokeira, also the resident.
Mokaya said he was ready to use all his resources to ensure children from vulnerable families get a chance to work on their education by getting food in all schools in the zone.
“Many children normally skip lunch due to lack of food in their homes. I will ensure that the programme remains intact for their own sake,” confirmed Mokaya.
