During an interview on Monday, Magara urged locals to ensure that high standards of hygiene are maintained during this rainy season to avert the possibility of cholera outbreak.

"We are currently experiencing a lot of rains countrywide and there is a possibility of cholera outbreak in Nyamira as experienced in North eastern parts of the country, and the only way to avert the outbreak is by maintaining high standards of hygiene," said Magara.

Magara further urged parents to ensure that their children below 14 years are immunized against measles and Rubela during the immunization campaign.

"My urge to parents out there is to ensure that their children below the age of 14 are immunized against measles and Rubella since we need a healthy nation," added Magara.

This comes after 231 people were reported to have died after a cholera outbreak in Northeastern parts of the country.
