Speaking on Tuesday in Nyamira town, the chairperson of the Diabetic Community Organization based in the county, David Bosire, said they would have an outreach campaign on April 30 so that residents can get the free service near them.

However, he said the same service would be offered in health centers so that residents can be going for testing of the disease.

“We will be having a diabetic awareness campaign on April 30 so that Nyamira residents can have the opportunity to be tested. I therefore call residents to come out in large numbers so that they can know their health status,” he appealed.

Bosire said the screening would help those who will be tested positive to be put under medication, so that the pandemic can be fought at primary stage.

However, he blamed patients for not adhering to instructions in the management of the disease that makes it resistant to drugs, and therefore urged them to embrace instructions given by physicians in order to fight their health problem to the latter.

Bosire noted that research shows that those who use drugs as prescribed and recommended foods stand high chances of recovering from the disease that is deemed to be a deadly monster.

"Diabetic patients have done disfavour to themselves. Some of them do not follow instructions in the usage of drugs and the foods they should avoid in a given period. Some take double drugs when they have skipped to take as instructed and others eat food they have been advised not to," he said.

He added: “I urge them to adhere to the instructions by taking drugs as prescribed by the doctor. This is the only way that will ensure the health pandemic is fought.”

Bosire said everyone is prone to diabetes including the unborn and urged everyone to come out and get tested.
