Residents of Kitutu Masaba Constituency in Nyamira County have complained of shortage of medics in various dispensaries that were built courtesy of CDF and the county government of Nyamira.

Speaking on Wednesday at Mosobeti Market during a meeting with county officials, speaker after speaker accused the county government of failing to handle the crisis despite constant complaints by locals to the government.

They urged the CDF managers and county government officials to halt the programme of building dispensaries across the county till the shortage of medics is addressed.

“We are just seeing structures set by the county government and CDF committees in many regions but surprisingly enough, they do the facility but fail to assign health officers who can manage the facilities. They will have to halt the programme till recruitment of health staffs in all medical centres is accomplished,” said Mr Thomas Onywere, the area resident.

According to them, the recent advertisement for medical officers and nurses recruitment would not solve the acute shortage and urged the county government to increase the vacancies.

“We understand health is a devolved function and time has come for the county government to come to reality with the situation in this area. The recent advertisement of some medical post recruitment is not enough since we still have many dispensaries that are yet to get staff,” added Mr Evans Obiero.

However, the county Chief Medical Officer Mr Douglas Bosire said plans are in place to curb the shortage and urged residents to give the county government time to fix the predicament.

“We know there is a crisis but we are determined to ensure all the issues are solved. All we need is support and time to fix all this,” said Bosire.
